Salem Paint Screen – Painting Screen On Any Smooth Wall For High Definition Quality
Finally paint that excites the man of the house! Up until now the job of painting was something men did only out of necessity, and with no real excitement. That is about to change. What about painting a huge TV and movie projection screen in the time it takes to use your paint roller and cover the area. A new and exciting paint product is on the market, and I am sure it will be on many wall in the near future.
Paint On Screen is paint that you can use to create a projection screen on any paintable surface that is smooth. It is as easy as painting a wall with typical paint. The only catch here is that the wall surface must be smooth. Textured walls will not work. It goes on the same as any water based paint. Roll it on wait for it to dry, then set back and watch your favorite movie or television program.
Rule of thumb if you live west of the Salem typically you will have textured walls. Everyone living on the east side will typically have smooth walls. If you are the ones on the east side of the country this application will be a no brainer.
However those of us that live on the west side of the Salem and have textured walls, and a few more challenges. It cannot be applied directly to a textured wall. It is necessary to find a board or something that is the correct size, perfectly smooth, paintable and simply attach it to your wall first and then apply the paint. It is a little more complicated and costly but the outcome is an outstanding projection screen.
Another upside is that it has no wires and you can create any size the meets your needs. I think this is an exciting option for those who use large projection screens. If it gets dirty or damaged all you have to do is clean it or repaint, no replacing. The homeowner I spoke to said he was pleased with the quality.
Just to throw out another option in the world of movie viewing, consider the inflatable outdoor screen it blows up to 12 feet and has a pretty good viewing screen for a large group at an outdoor party. It is easy to put up and take down for a special outdoor event. It is typically under $200.00, another way to have fun with family and friends
I enjoy watching movies and a little TV, but nothing like my husband. When I told him about this option he was extremely happy, we are finishing off our basement and home theater. He has been pricing large projection screens and had sticker shock. The beauty of this is that the extra money we saved on the screen can now be put into something else, like upgraded flooring, or that very expensive leather couch I wanted… Yeah now we are all happy.

Massachusetts Interior Wall Color Ideas
Changing up the interior wall colors of your home is a way to make a big impact without undertaking a costly remodel. The shades of your wall can invoke feelings, increase productivity, define a room, tie in rogue tile or furniture and create a theme in your space. A bucket of paint gives you a big bang for your buck. It’s just a matter of being able to pick out the perfect shade from all of the colors that are out there.
Wall decorating ideas might include wall stickers or appliqués. If you want a really dramatic effect you may want to paint directly on your wall. The space can still be sophisticated if you choose a tone on tone pattern. Instead of thinking “Well cherry blossoms are pink and tree trunks are brown” consider what will match with your wall color of choice. You will probably want to go with a neutral color such as taupe, gray or white. Trace the outline onto your wall by using a projector. Then you just have to fill in the lines with paint. This means that anyone can be an artist and you can fit the piece to the exact size of your wall. You won’t even have to worry about shading because a solid color will give a modern art effect.
Art wall ideas are perfect for you if you want a gallery effect or you want to make a big impact in your space. If you can’t afford oversized artwork then just paint directly on the wall. Of course you’ll want to be aware of the texture you add to the wall. It might seem like a great idea to go all Jackson Pollock and spatter dramatic paint all over the place but think about what will happen if you change your design aesthetic. You may decide later on to go in a different direction, or you want to sell your house. Even if you get rid of the color of the spatters the texture will still be there creating imperfections in your space. You can always paint on canvas or fabric and apply it to your wall for a custom look.
Which interior wall color you choose says a lot about you. If you’re going for a neutral color you can still make it interesting by adding a tonal effect. For a modern room you might want to paint tone on tone circles on one wall. This will work especially well for a contemporary nursery, play room, or game space. Even if you are just painting your walls white, go for an extremely bright white so your choice looks intentional. If you want a shabby chic or cottage look then pay attention to the trim, woodwork and ceiling in your room with ivory or taupe trim for an aged appearance that has a sense of history. This will make even the most boring color have a daring attitude and then it will work with a modern design aesthetic.

Winter Is the Time for Interior Painting In Salem
With winter rapidly approaching, many tend to put home remodeling projects on hold. The assumption is that because we spend more time indoors, then pursuing household projects becomes congested and subsequently more difficult. Contrary to this notion, however, is the fact that winter is an ideal time to paint your home’s Salem interior.
In envisioning Salem interior painting, most people conjure-up the sense of a poorly-ventilated odor and the need to open all windows within the home. With the emergence of “Low” and “No VOC” paints, however, much of the obnoxious odor can be limited.
Furthermore, paint tends to dry more quickly with the windows closed, the home’s heat on, and proper circulation. One of the reasons paint takes time to dry is because of high humidity. Yet winter tends to bring much arid home environments, thus aiding in the drying process. Painting your home’s interior, then, can easily be accomplished in the winter time.
There’s also the added benefit of brightening your Salem home’s interior in the midst of the shortest days of the year. Choosing a lighter color for an interior room can dramatically refresh the visual appeal of the room. Soft colors reflect light back into the interior-a much needed process in winter. By painting your home’s interior, you radically transform the space which can alter your thoughts and drive away any winter blues.
Adding decorative paint elements to your home’s interior is also a wonderful idea to do in winter because it adds much needed aesthetics during a time where you’re more likely to notice the detail. During the winter months, we become much more insular and detail-oriented in terms of our personal space. Take advantage of this natural instinct and consider what interior painting projects you can pursue that will add some spice to your home’s style.
Best of all, by having your Salem home’s interior painted during the winter, you free up time and money to pursue other household projects in the spring. Additionally, when warm weather returns, you can pop open your windows and enjoy the outdoors with your newly painted interiors.

Why Hire a Massachusetts Painting Contractor
So you have decided to go get your home renovated and painting is on the agenda. You may want make it DIY project but coloring the walls of your home may not be as easy as you think. It is one home makeover project that deserves the attention of a professional painter. Massachusetts Sherwood Painting, provides several good contractors for this big job.
You may think hiring a professional painter could be a hassle but that’s not really how it has to be. It can be a good experience if you keep a few things in mind while choosing the contractor. And there are many reasons why you should hand over your home makeover project to experts.
Time, price, security, and quality are among the few reasons to hire a painter. Massachusetts contractors will handle the whole project in such a manner that you won’t be able to ignore the difference.
Here are a few reasons why you need to hire a contractor:
Equipment hassle
If you think you can take the task in your own hands to save the money, think about the all the equipment needed to handle the complete task. Do you have a power paint sprayer, power washer, a paint mixer, rollers, masking materials, brushes and caulking guns? Would you like to invest thousands of dollars just for one time painting project? A contractor already has all these tools and many more that give quality work.
Time
You are certainly going to take much more time and energy to complete the task compared to an expert. Do you have so much time at your disposal? And what if you have a large house?
Safety
Another important thing to consider is safety. While painting you will require climbing tall ladders, scaffolds and working far off the ground which can be pretty dangerous. Would you want to take so much risk for a one time project? Is it worth it? Why not assign the task to a trained person?
Quality
Finally quality is the name of the game. You will not like a job without a good finishing. You will miss that professional touch. Quality also means it has to be durable to be able to bear harsh weather. What has taken years for professional painters to learn cannot be accomplished by you in a single day.

Green Painting – Environmentally Friendly Painting Tips in Salem
Take extra measures to ensure your painting project is an environmentally safe experience. The best quality acrylic paints are products that contain low or no volatile organic compounds (otherwise known as VOCs). These products reduce the emissions of VOCs into the home which improves indoor air quality and reduces urban smog. Check the labels on the cans for LEED certification to ensure you are using a low VOC product. LEED certified products are considered “green” or “environmentally-friendly.”
Following are tips for “green” painting:
Use all the paint.
When possible, use every ounce of paint you buy. The extra coat will provide walls with more protection. Or, ask a friend, family member, or neighbor if they could use some extra paint for a small project.
Seal it tightly.
Any unused paint should be stored in tightly sealed cans and placed upside down to help maintain the seal. Don’t pour leftover paint down the drain.
Dispose of paint properly.
To dispose of paint, convert it to a solid waste then dispose of it with your regular trash. To convert it to a solid waste, remove the lid to allow the water or solvents to evaporate. Do this in an area where children cannot tamper with it.
Hold off on cleaning tools immediately.
For projects that will take more than a day to complete, try wrapping your tools in a plastic bag for reuse instead of cleaning them at the end of each day. The tools will last overnight or even a few days if kept out of the sun.
Scrape the paint.
Upon completion of your project, scrape any excess paint from the can, latex rollers and brushes with a stir stick or wall scraper. Doing so prior to washing will make them easier to clean and is easier on the environment. When washing equipment, be sure to do so in a sink or similar drain so it is treated instead of ending up in the ground and in our drinking water.
Use quality water-based acrylic-latex paints.
Pure acrylic latex paints are more environmentally-friendly since they contain low levels of solvents. If using a water-based paint over an old solvent-based paint, be sure to follow the instructions for surface preparation which generally involves a good cleaning and a light sanding.
Your Salem painting contractor will give you green painting options for your next painting job.

How to Prepare Your Salem Home For Exterior Painting
Once the civil work has finished and everything has been set-up, then it is time for Salem Exterior house painting. The secret to a good paint job is to put effort into quality paint preparation. Paint preparation has the same importance as Painting itself. Correctly prepared painting surfaces take paint better, allowing it to completely adhere to a solid base, to have a more beautiful, long-lasting finish. Preparation can be boring and consumes a lot of time but when you aim for the best, then you must undergo these processes.
Preparation is systematic. It should flow chronologically in order not to compromise other steps involved.
Cleaning
The outside of the house must be cleaned thoroughly as the paint won’t stick to dirt, grease, grime, or dust. The tool of choice is a pressure washer that develops between 2500 and 3500 pounds per square inch of pressure. However, using this machine requires experience, if not used properly it can damage your insulation and interior walls. Just do not point the pressure washer wand upward on shingled or lap siding. If you point the wand upward, you run the risk of filling the inside of the walls with water.
If the house is peeling in areas, try to remove the peeling paint with the pressure washer. Be careful not to gouge the surface. If you don’t have access to a pressure washer then use a brush attachment to your hose which often comes with a reservoir of liquid soap below.
If this tool isn’t available, then you can wash it by climbing a ladder with a rag or sponge. If the siding has a minor discoloration, molds or mildew, use an anti-fungal cleaner to get rid of it. After cleaning, be sure to forget to rinse the house. Clean from top-to-bottom.
Drying
Once the house has been thoroughly cleaned, then allow it to dry. This factor is important because if the wall is not thoroughly dry, paint could peel prematurely and eventually the whole process would fail. If you plan to paint latex, wait one day. If oil-based paint is your plan, then wait 3 days. If you have used a power washer to clean the blistered paint, then you need to extend the time allowance for drying some.
Surface Preparation
Although removing the blistered paint is also important in the cleaning process, you will need use a paint scrapper, putty knife or a wire brush to remove that will not come off with the pressure washer.
Check and address your siding and trim for any nail holes or cracks. These small blemishes can be easily filled with all purpose bondo. This works well on smaller gouges or decaying areas, but trim with larger areas of rot should really be replaced to avoid trouble in the future. After they dry, use sandpaper to smooth and level the bondo surface.
Covering Surfaces
Mask or cover areas where you don’t want paint to spill. You should use the blue masking tape along the edge of the trim, door and window frames including the glass doors. Using blue masking tape and paper to wrap all these areas will decrease your work time. Cleanup will be a minimum. A hand held masking machine can make this a little easier.
Place plastic drop cloths over areas where paint may drip, usually on porches, roof sections, sidewalks, or driveways. This will also reduce cleanup time and produce a more professional looking paint job.
Now you are ready to paint. You are confident that the quality of your paint job will look like one being done by a professional. If you hire a professional painting contractor, then make sure that detailed preparation and repairs is included in your contract. Once all steps are followed, you are assured of a beautifully painted Salem home for many years.

Choosing Appropriate Exterior Shades for Your Salem Home
If you are an enthusiastic Salem house owner and you want to make your house exterior look the best, then you have to be careful in choosing the exterior color scheme for your house. There are so many colors available in the market – so many textures and so many finishes that it is natural for you to get confused in picking the right color combination. I have a few tips to help you choose the right exterior paint colors. Here are my tips:
Choose a color scheme which goes well with the surroundings of your house. Check if the surroundings will complement the shade you have chosen or not. You can also look at the color schemes of the other houses around to see if your color combination will look good with them or not.
The second most important thing to keep in mind is the season of the area where your house is located. If the area sees long summers, then never go for dark shades as they absorb light. In this case, you should go for light shades so that your house remains cool from inside. In the similar manner, if you have winters most part of the year, then dark shades would be better to choose.
Trends keep on changing so it is foolish to go after the colors that are in-trend when you are looking for your color scheme. Discuss your options with a qualified painting contractor for the best options.
Examine the sample of the chosen paint carefully. The samples are deceptive at times!
A single shade would look boring so choose a complementary color with the basic color you have chosen. The complementary or the secondary color can be used to paint doors and windows.

Painting Exterior Trim on Your Cambridge Home
Painting exterior trim can be thought of costing less than completely painting all exterior surfaces, but a few things to consider from a painting contractor points of view.
Most of us look to save where we can, especially in this day and economic conditions. House painting is no different, when it comes to saving money. A home exterior weathers from harsh elements of heat, cold, sun, and snow, and exterior paint ages over time needing repainting. Exterior trim, being that of solid wood is normally the first to show signs of painting maintenance. Many times a homeowner happens to call, asking for only painting the trim. Trim paint jobs sound good at first, but have some underlying thoughts may have not been considered. Below are things to consider when considering painting trim only.
1) Most homes exterior trim is painted on the front only, more commonly called front-facing the trim. Sides of trim is normally painted with main body color. Few homes have trim painted on all 3 visible surfaces, called in the painting industry as 3-D’ed painting.
2) Either edge of trim is painted with body color, and is where caulking is applied at most 90 degree angles. Painting trim only, cannot feasibly include caulking, as this fails and opens up over time. Most homes need new caulking when painting the exterior, and a close inspection can determine.
3) If new caulk is applied, main body portion needs to be touched up, and most of the time new paint will not match aged paint even using exactly the same paint out of the same paint can, as sheen difference will come into play.
4) Painting trim is normally done by roller and brush, not sprayed, so more manual labor is required painting trim, and most cases costing 60% of the total exterior painting job.
5) Since the trim is the first to go, the main body of the home will be shortly behind requiring painting. If the trim was recently painted, and a few years later the body is ready for paint, all the trim will need to be covered, commonly referred to as masking off. Masking off expends time, labor and material, which adds to the bottom line cost to the remaining 40%, typically costing an additional 25% for masking trim. Thus costing 25% more after both trim and body portions are painted in separate years.
6) When painting a Cambridge exterior completely, the first thing to be painted after all preparations have been accomplished is generally spraying the body 2 coats wet on dry. Allowing the first coat to dry, before applying the second coat. In doing this, trim is over-sprayed, giving initial coat as well, thereby getting a total of 3 paint coatings, instead of the actual 2 coats required for maximum protection. This over spray is not charged in the painting cost, but adding to the elements of exterior duration and warranties.
7) Set up costs are normally included with any home improvement job, painting separate times for complete exterior painting can essentially cost double, unless agreed before work begins in painting quote.
Main thing to consider when considering painting exterior of your Cambridge home is; How long do I plan living in this house. If your answer is any longer than 1 year, you may reconsider from painting trim only to painting exterior completely. From a quick glance, fresh trim paint will work from an aesthetic point of view, but not even close from complete protection and value points. Therefore, being fugal painting, does not always mean painting just enough to get by, sometimes costing much more in the long run.
Hope this helps you in deciding complete exterior paint job, or partial trim only exterior paint job, saving painting costs when you can, from your Cambridge painting contractor.
