Was your home built before 1978?
If so, important new Federal guidelines will impact your project!

Effective April 22, 2010, homes built prior to 12/31/1977 now require an EPA-certified RRP contractor to guarantee compliance with the new EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Program Final Rule 40 CFR Part 745.

You, as the homeowner, are required to ensure that any contractor hired to work on your home is EPA Certified.
Request to see proof of EPA Firm Certification prior to hiring anyone to work on your home.
At this time, also review the contractors licensing and insurance (liability and workers compensation). The verification of this key information ensures that you are dealing with a professional company capable of managing your project in accordance with Federal regulations.

Minimize the threat of lead poisoning your family, friends, neighbors and pets.
While lead dust is especially dangerous to children six (6) and under, it also causes serious problems in adolescents and adults.  Often manifesting itself with mild, flu-like symptoms the long-term effects of lead poisoning include nervous system and kidney damage; decreased intelligence, ADD, learning disabilities and speech and/or behavioral problems.

Certified workers, following the RRP guidelines, will implement rigorous new measures designed to contain harmful debris generated during the painting process.

Here are the current percentages of homes likely to contain lead paint, according to the EPA.
Built before 1940:                                       87% contain lead paint
Built between 1940-1960:                            69% contain lead paint
Built between 1960-1978:                            24% contain lead paint

Fines for non-compliance can reach $37,500 per incident in Massachusetts.
The EPA, OSHA, State of MA and local Health Departments are planning vigorous enforcement of this ruling. Don’t risk your project getting shut down due to hiring a non-certified contractor!
